Moving Rates
Many people who move for the first time wonder exactly how movers charge for their services. Here's an overview of the moving rates at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® Chicago Midway.
Local Moves
For local moving services, we charge an hourly rate. After any applicable minimum hours are met, we then charge in 15-minute increments. A local move is any move taking place within 35 air miles (in Illinois) or within seven Illinois collar-counties: Cook, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Lake, McHenry and Will.
For local moves going from suburbs to suburbs, suburbs to Chicago or Chicago to suburbs, the time begins when our movers leave our office and ends when they return to the office.
For Chicago-to-Chicago moves, we charge a ½ hour flat travel rate to get to the first pickup point (origin) and a flat ½ hour to get from the last drop off point (destination) back to our office. The actual time from when we arrive at the origin until we are leaving the final destination is charged at an hourly rate. We find a flat travel rate fee works best for Chicago-to-Chicago moves so our customers are not penalized for traffic congestion, construction, weather or other variables that can affect us getting to or from the job site. Our trucks are hard-wired with GPS for the fastest routes and allow our dispatcher to view reports of actual work and time travel spent on your job. You will not be charged for time if we get lost, or if there is an error on our part. With TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® Chicago Midway, you can also count on:
- No extra charges for fuel, mileage, or use of the truck.
- No extra charges for moving pads, stretch wrap or equipment.
- Our lowest rates are offered Monday through Thursday, and we charge a slightly higher rate on the weekends.
- Most moves can be scheduled over the phone or via email. Our skilled customer service representatives can determine how long your move will take based on the information you provide.
- Our rates include trained professional movers, clean and fully equipped 24’ to 26’ moving trucks, moving pads and equipment, and basic tools for minor disassembly and reassembly.
- Our movers are professionally trained, have been drug-tested, background-checked and are in uniform (we do not use day labor).
Many companies have lower hourly rates, but they charge extra fees for standard moving supplies and services. When shopping around, make sure you’re comparing “apples-to-apples.” Ask about additional costs you’ll incur on move day and make sure the company is licensed and insured. You’ll often find that once these items are factored in, our prices are extremely competitive and of superior value.
Local services are provided in accordance with our Illinois Tariff of Rates and Charges on file with the Illinois Commerce Commission and viewable in our office. All movers of household goods in Illinois must be licensed by the Illinois Commerce Commission.
Packing
Packing services are provided in accordance with our Illinois Tariff of Rates and Charges. Services are charged per container (ie: box) and include the cost of materials and labor. We can pack one box, or the entire home or business. All items we pack are insured by TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® Chicago Midway. Discuss your packing needs with one of our customer service representatives, and we will provide you with an estimated cost of services.
Load or Unload Only
Loading and unloading services are billed at an hourly rate. If we are loading a vehicle other than our own, you will be responsible for providing moving pads. You can purchase pads through our store or provide your own. Stretch wrap is included in the hourly rate.
Long-Distance Moves
For your long-distance intrastate move, we offer exclusive use of our truck, a guaranteed pickup and delivery date, and a promise that your items will never leave our possession, be transferred to another truck or put in a warehouse. Your items will be loaded onto our truck, driven directly to your destination, and unloaded – all by the same driver, from start to finish. You can contact your driver at any time during the move to check their location or estimated time of arrival.
Whether it’s one couch to LaGrange or an entire household to Riverside, we move it exclusively on our truck with our Chicago employees – from start to finish.
