Home Moving: Your Chicago Midway Home Movers
Moving in Chicago provides many challenges compared to a “typical” suburban move. Our TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® Chicago Midway location specializes in overcoming these unique challenges in order to make your transition as smooth as possible. Listed below are some tips to help get you ready for your downtown Chicago move.
It’s important to work directly with your property manager and/or landlord to find out the following:
- What move-in and move-out rules apply?
- Does your building require union or non-union movers?
- Does an elevator need to be reserved? Will we have exclusive use or will we be sharing it with other tenants also moving that day?
- Does your building require a certificate of insurance, and if so, what specific information is needed?
Truck parking is one of the most difficult challenges Chicago moving companies face. Our trucks are 24’ to 26’ long, and if there is not a dock, then the walk ramp adds another 14’, so we typically need 40’ to 50’ in order to efficiently load and unload the truck.
An adequate parking area for our truck(s) is an important aspect of any move. In some cases parking permits must be obtained through the city ahead of your scheduled move. Our TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® Chicago Midway location can assist with obtaining parking permits for moves involving a Chicago address. The permit must be ordered at least 72 business hours before the move. The City of Chicago will place “no parking” signs at the address of the permit. Remember to evaluate the parking situation at both the loading and unloading addresses.
